IGS - Check

IGS Check is a substance database that contains information about chemical substances taken from various sources (manuals, ordinances other databases). The data is adopted unchanged and stored in a finely detailed structure that is classified according to over 230 attributes. This makes it possible to present substance information from various sources together and to compare that information.

The IGS Check database is made available to public institutions in Switzerland. The user interface is provided in the languages: German, French, Italian and English. The National Emergency Management Centre NEOC assumes the role of an operating centre and is responsible for maintaining the data and allowing users to access the database. The presentation software was developed by the company Kisters AG. ACC Computer AG is responsible for integrating the current data into various databases as well as for compiling the application on CD-ROMs. ACC Computer AG also provides support for IGS Check customers.

In order to process the large volume of data, the NAZ co-operates internationally with the German federal states North-Rhine-Westphalia and Hesse. Consequently, the data is edited by different departments, and software tools are developed in joint projects.

IGS-Check includes more than 1.8 million single pieces of information on nearly 28'000 substances and near 3.7 million single pieces of information on more than 290'000 products (Products register of FOPH).
